The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree is a children’s picture book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. First published in 1964 by Harper & Row, it has become one of Silverstein’s best-known titles and has been translated into numerous languages. There are two ways to interpret the book: whether the relationship between the main characters (a boy and a tree) should be interpreted as positive or as negative. The show is very melody driven and fantastic for visual story telling. There are multiple movements: The Relationship, The Giving, The Loss and Reconciliation. You may choose to use the illustrations from the book for your inspiration (remember to check into copyright laws) or simply use the idea of being in nature for your designs. The music lends itself to a variety of looks from whimsical to modern to famous paintings of landscapes. Don't be afraid to go bold with your color choices! The auxiliary outfits and flags can range from simple to spectacular. This show offers many unique musical moments and ideas that would work well with many themes or guard ideas.
