Clash
Clash
Throughout history, there have been cycles of peace, conflict, and healing. One of these cycles is a snapshot of American culture in the 1960’s and 70’s. We begin with an image of prosperity, in our cookie cutter white-picket-fence neighborhood, and are interrupted by the 1969 draft lottery. With homes being torn apart, two distinct sides are drawn: pro-war and anti-war. This is shown through our militaristic block marching on our hippie protest, with a huge clash when the two sides meet. After these events, we are left with broken homes and families on both sides. Fire and Rain, the classic James Taylor song, starts to help us find healing with love despite our differences. Having found common ground, we celebrate with a rendition of The Fifth Dimension’s Aquarius (Let The Sunshine In)! This show was originally designed for the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps in Pasco, Washington and has been since adapted to fit a high school marching ensemble.
