Embrace the Rain
Not everyone loves the rain. It soaks our clothes and blocks out the sun, but rain also brings life. Children put on rain boots and go stomp in puddles. It is the perfect chance to put on a warm coat and huddle together under an umbrella. This show encourages us to have fun in the rain and enjoy the gift that our planet gives us. The beginning of the show portrays a calm day with a cloudless sky. This is the perfect chance to explore some warm spring colors in your guard, such as blues, yellows, and greens, that can later be contrasted by some darker storm colors. Our calm day segues into a light rain that is calm enough to enjoy and for children to play in the puddles. Our calm rain then gives way to a heavy cloudburst with aggressive writing in the percussion feature. At this point, it is difficult to embrace the rain. As the storm subsides, Oliver Davis’s Air Waltz paints a picture of life springing up from the storm. Flowers start to bloom, the sun comes out and we realize that even heavy storms can bring new life.
