Fragments of Red
Fragments of Red
The color red is known for representing many things, not the least of which is love. There are a lot of different directions you can go with this malleable show concept! The show opens with an aggressive mashup of Maurice Ravel’s Bolero and Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Things get even fierier in the second act as we kick into Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge! There are many possibilities in this part of the show including partner dance work. The softer side of romance emerges in Seal’s Kiss From a Rose in movement 3, before we fire things back up in part 4 with the Carmen Suite. Programmatically, Bad Romance implies heartbreak which can be tied into the word “fragmented”. Props and implements on the field can start out in straight lines (to match the calm Bolero energy) and can get progressively more fragmented over the course of the show. Red props or removable uniform pieces that can be added or removed during the show also offer an interesting visual theme to tie in with the program. We love the endless possibilities this show invites!
