Voices of the Earth
What if our planet could create music? In many ways, it already does. Imagine the howling of the wind, the babbling of a creek, and the rumbling of distant thunder. This show is inspired by Archibald Lampman’s poem, “Voices of the Earth” paired with the classical elements of water, air, and fire. The pre-show is a calming ode to our beautiful earth with sampled vocals (or an instrumental soloist) performing “What a Wonderful World”. In the first movement, Billy Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes” celebrates water, painting a picture of our beautiful oceans. The next movement brings the fire with a rendition of Mussorsky’s “Night On Bald Mountain” that transitions into a jersey club breakdown and layers in Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain” on top of the Mussorgsky. After this, we slow things down with an arrangement of Bach’s Air that gives showcases the ensemble's expression and artistry. We conclude the show with a clever rendition of “What a Wonderful World” that again celebrates the beauty of our planet and everything it brings. The elemental themes of each movement are a great starting point for visual designs and props to complement the show, but there are also opportunities to further explore the idea of our planet creating its own music!
